Save up to £910 a month on rent just by travelling five extra stops

Leading room share platform, ideal flatmate, has done research into finding how travelling across London Underground can lead to big rental savings, and have made some interesting discoveries.

From their research they have reported that opting to travel five stops out can save £377 a month for every station, and £145 for every minute extra spent on the tube. The largest savings per minute being the Jubilee line – with a saving of £287 for the Underground – and between Waterloo and City Train lines, with £910 monthly savings.

Co-founder of ideal flatmate, Tom Gatzen, commented: “London’s extensive tube network allows those priced out of many areas of the capital to remain within arm’s reach of where they would like to be."

"This doesn’t just apply to house hunting, but also for work. You could find a much more affordable option just minutes on the tube that will improve your monthly bank balance and your quality of life.’’

He added that this mix is vital when it comes to living in London, and that they kept their research within only five stops with 20-minute travel distances for affordability and commuter appeal.

ideal flatmate was founded by Tom Gatzen and Rob Imonikhe back in 2016, and was originally the first flatshare portals that match people rather than properties. But since it helps to make sure tenants are compatible, it also has a much better landlord retention rate for tenants.
