A recent survey by London lettings and estate agent Benham and Reeves asked homebuyers which Jubilee decorations they would find most off-putting when viewing a property.

Many often utilise the bank holiday weekend to relax or do fun activities but 55% of participants reveal that they will continue their property hunt during the four day UK bank holiday weekend.

In celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, many have decorated their homes with decorations fit for a royal occasion. However, the findings show these are likely to deter prospective buyers.

The east popular decorations

The least popular jubilee decorations were effigies of the Queen that are often created from cardboard or paper mache. Jubilee-themed outfits were the second most disliked Jubilee home decoration.

Despite a growing number of union jacks flags lining the streets of the UK, prospective buyers were put off by these around the home.

Jubilee-themed table spreads and Jubilee flower arrangements were the least distracting for prospective buyers.

Director of Benham and Reeves, Marc von Grundherr, concludes: “The Jubilee weekend presents a great opportunity for homebuyers to get ahead of the pack, as many will be pausing their property search to spend the long weekend with friends and family. 

“As we gear up for four days of celebrations, it’s understandable that many of us will be transforming our homes in anticipation. However, for those who are looking to sell their home, they may want to do so a little more conservatively to ensure that no potential buyers who come to view are spooked by their obsession for her Majesty.”

“It’s pretty simple really, just follow the general approach to preparing your home in any market, at any time of year.”

“Lean into the Jubilee theme by adding some finishing touches to your property and dressing the table, or adding some bunting.”

“However, the slightly scary effigy of Her Majesty that your children created in art class might be best left in the cupboard during the viewing and if you consider yourself a Royal Family super fan, it’s important to note that your 20-year collection of memorabilia may detract attention from the property itself.”
