Northwest-based Vernon Building Society has launched its first ever television advertising to help build its profile across Greater Manchester and Cheshire as it aims to grow its presence in the region over the next five years.

The ‘Make It Count’ ad will be broadcast on ITV Granada for an initial month-long burst after launching last week (24 February). The ad aims to educate viewers that saving with your local building society means members not only get a fair rate, but that they also help local first-time buyers and support local charities.

The business was founded 100 years ago in Stockport and the new 30-second ad was filmed in the company’s recently refurbished St Petersgate branch in Stockport, with colleagues cast as extras.

Darren Ditchburn, CEO at Vernon Building Society, says: “This feels like the right time for us to invest in TV advertising. We aim to have a presence in each of the ten Greater Manchester boroughs over the next five years, so it’s important people in Greater Manchester and Cheshire understand our values.”

“With the ISA deadline approaching, we want people to think carefully about where they save their money. Investing in a local building society not only provides you with competitive rates but it also builds a better future where you live and work.”

“Building societies have a commitment to invest in local charities and causes and listen to the wishes of members about the issues that matters most to them.”

The campaign is targeted predominantly at adults aged 55+ and will also be supported with radio advertising, paid search, social media advertising and door drops.
