eco-Landlord, a one-stop platform helping landlords improve their properties’ EPC ratings, now offers a free service for mortgage brokers.
The platform enables mortgage brokers to refer landlords to eco-Landlord for guidance on what they need to do to upgrade their properties’ EPC ratings.
If mortgage finance is required to support the upgrades, the referring broker will receive notification so they can provide mortgage advice to their customer.
The service will be free for brokers and landlords.
The government says all privately rented properties are required to achieve an EPC rating of C by October 2030.
With five million rental properties in the UK – over half rated D or lower – and a growing shortage of qualified installers, it is regarded as important that landlords consider their upgrade strategies now.
eco-Landlord builds a personalised retrofit plan, discovers grants, and connects with qualified installers to complete the work.
A final revised EPC will then be undertaken to confirm the success of the upgrades.
eco-Landlord claims brokers can add value to their landlord clients by offering expert guidance on energy efficiency and property retrofitting without becoming specialists themselves.
If a new mortgage is required for the referred landlord, the broker will be notified.
Additionally, eco-landlord can help brokers source the best mortgage products from a criteria and affordability perspective with potential lending products already identified, saving the broker significant effort.
Angus Stewart, chief executive of eco-Landlord, comments: “By joining eco-Landlord, brokers can provide their landlord clients with comprehensive support throughout the property upgrade process, from guidance on improving EPC ratings to identifying potential grants and installers.
“This partnership strengthens the mortgage broker’s role as a trusted advisor and simplifies the landlord’s path to upgrade their properties.”
