Tembo, L&C and Leek collect customer feedback-based awards

2026’s top mortgage providers as recognised by customer feedback have been unveiled by the British Bank Awards, run by Smart Money People.

The awards are based on customer votes and reviews and celebrate companies that have delivered outstanding service and support to customers and intermediary partners.

Winners revealed

Tembo Money won Best Mortgage Broker for the fifth year running, while L&C Mortgages won Customer Service Champion and was also highly commended in the Best Mortgage Broker category.

Staffordshire-based Leek Building Society won two awards, including Best Specialist Mortgage Provider for the third year running and Best Building Society.

Peer Jelendorf, CEO of Smart Money People, said: “Congratulations to Tembo for being named Best Mortgage Broker in this year’s British Bank Awards for the fifth year in a row. Reviews at Smart Money People consistently praise the high level of support provided throughout the mortgage journey, with customers frequently mentioning the responsiveness and dedication of individual advisors.

“Many also point to how well Tembo handles more complex cases, helping to make what can often be a stressful process feel far more manageable. Combined with its ability to search across a wide range of lenders and affordability schemes, it’s clear why Tembo continues to stand out in the market.”

Making home ownership less overwhelming

Richard Dana, founder and CEO of Tembo, said: “Winning Best Mortgage Broker for the fifth year in a row is an incredible achievement and something the whole team is hugely proud of. This award is a reflection of the care, dedication and expertise our team brings to customers every single day. From helping first-time buyers navigate complex affordability situations, to supporting homeowners to find the best possible remortgage deal, our mission has always been to make homeownership more achievable and less overwhelming.

Andy Deeks, chief executive officer at Leek Building Society, said: “Winning these awards is a proud moment for everyone at Leek Building Society. To be recognised nationally as the Best Building Society, while also retaining the title of Best Specialist Mortgage Provider for a third consecutive year, is a fantastic achievement, and testament to the outstanding work that my colleagues show day in, day out to deliver our purpose to be a force for good for savers and borrowers.”
