HSBC has been singled out as offering the best first-time buyer mortgage to 95% LTV.
A new report from Moneyfacts said the choice of mortgages to buyers with only a 5% deposit has soared lately, with a range of mortgage options available, including two, three and five-year fixed rates, as well as discounted variable rates.
HSBC's two-year fix charging 4.79% to 31 March 2016 is currently the best 95% LTV deal on the market, it said:
"This brand new Help to Buy mortgage guarantee product offers a chart-topping 4.79% fixed for two years to borrowers with at least a 5% deposit.
"This value-for-money deal comes with a very reasonable £99 booking fee."
Moneyfacts said Norwich & Peterborough Building Society's two-year fixed rate at 4.89% ran HSBC a close second.
"This costs just 0.10% more than HSBC's top deal, but charges no product fee. Borrowers will certainly benefit from the generous incentive package that includes free valuation fees and a £500 rebate, making this great value for money."
Yorkshire Bank was in third place, with a three-year fix charging 4.99% until 31 January 2017.
Moneyfacts said: "This will appeal to borrowers looking for a little more certainty over their repayments. As an added bonus this fee-free product includes incentives such as free valuation fees as well as a £250 rebate, making it highly competitive."
Yorkshire Building Society's fix to 28 February 2019 at 5.09% was the highest-placed five-year fixed rate.
"This offers a highly competitive rate to buyers who want peace of mind that their repayments won't change over five years. Borrowers must take note that they will be charged a relatively high fee of £975 when taking out this product."
Moneyfacts also praised Norwich & Peterborough's five-year fix charging 5.29%. "This deal charges no fees and includes incentives of free valuation fees and a £500 rebate, which will help borrowers to keep upfront costs to the absolute minimum."
