The number of people planning to move home in the next 12 months has doubled as optimism returns to the property market.

Some 14% of homeowners plan to move to a new home within the next 12 months, up from just 7% at the start of last year, according to new research from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks.

Londoners are set to be the most mobile, with 18% planning to buy a new home in 2014, closely followed by Wales and the Midlands, with 17%.

Just 11% of those surveyed in Scotland and the North West plan to move home this year.

Homeowners are also optimistic about house prices, with 48% anticipating the value of their home will rise in 2014, and just 3% expecting a fall.

Andrew Pearce, retail director for Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, said: “New Year is traditionally a time for planning and looking ahead and our survey has shown that moving home is again becoming a priority for many people.

“This is coupled with sustained confidence in property prices with almost half of those surveyed anticipating that the value of their home is set to increase.”

Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks have just launched a new range of mortgages. These include products targeted at first-time buyers, and a number of mortgages fixed for two and five years which come with a £500 cashback offer and no arrangement fees.
