Barclays and Virgin Money have both cut rates in recent days as the mortgage price war intensifies.

Barclays has launched its "best ever limited-edition fixed-rate products" exclusively for remortgage customers.

It is introducing six new remortgage-only products, which will be available for just two weeks.

New two-year fixed rates.

Two-year fix at 1.49% to 60% LTV with £999 fee.

Two-year fix at 1.79% to 60% LTV with zero fee.

Two-year fix at 1.49% to 65% LTV with £1,999 fee.

New five-year fixed rates.

Five-year fix at 2.39% to 60% LTV with £999 fee.

Five-year fix at 2.79% to 60% LTV with zero fee.

Five-year fix at 2.39% to 65% LTV with £1,999.

Andy Gray, managing director of mortgages for Barclays, said: "These fantastic remortgage deals - our best ever - will only be available for a very short period and we are encouraging those wanting to benefit to act quickly."

To take advantage of these deals homeowners will need to complete before 31 March 2015.

Virgin Money has cut rates and waived fees on a range of selected mortgage products.

Highlights include:

Two-year fix at 65% LTV reduced to 1.55%, with a £1,495 product fee.

Five-year fix at 65% LTV reduced to 2.35%, with a £1,495 product fee.

Two-year fix at 85% LTV reduced to 2.59%, with a £995 product fee.

Virgin is also waived its £99 application fee on selected intermediary exclusive products and further reduced interest rates across its Intermediary Exclusive range.

The range is now available to all intermediaries registered with a Virgin Money national account.

Virgin's revised Larger Loan Intermediary Exclusive range:

Two-year fix at 65% LTV reduced to 1.55%, with a £1,495 product fee.

Five-year fix at 65% LTV reduced to 2.35%, with a £1,495 product fee.

These deals have a minimum loan size of £150,000.

Virgin's revised general Intermediary Exclusive range:

Two-year fix at 65% LTV reduced to 1.72%, with a £995 product fee.

Two-year fix at 75% LTV reduced to 1.88%, with a £995 product fee.

Five-year fix 65% LTV reduced to 2.43%, with a £995 product fee.

Two-year fix New Build special at 85% LTV available at 2.54%, with a £995 product fee and £500 cashback.

Virgin Money is also waiving the £99 application fee on selected 65%, 70% and 75% LTV intermediary exclusive products, for a limited period only.

It has also made changes to its core residential and buy-to-let ranges.

Mortgage director Peter Rogerson said: "The improvements we have made will help customers benefit from some of the most competitive deals in the current market."
