Some 215,000 new jobs would be created if the UK built the new homes it needs, and the national economy would receive a £1.2 billion boost.

These are the sums done in a new report from the Home Builders Federation called ‘Reconstructing our regions’.

It unveils the economic benefits of meeting the UK’s housing need.

It is the first report to analyse the potential economic impact of the Government’s New Homes Bonus on local communities, together with the upturn in local employment if communities did build the homes required.

HBF executive chairman Stewart Baseley said: “Building houses is a win-win for communities across the country. Not only will families get the homes they need, but local employment and increased investment will be boosted.”
