A property finance expert claims tomorrow – Thursday April 2 – will be the most popular moving day of 2026.
Holly Andrews, managing director at KIS Finance, says the date is almost perfect for anyone looking to settle into a new home with the least stress, with the Easter double bank holiday weekend giving an extended run of days before returning to work.
The insight comes from Google search data showing that March is the month when people most actively look up advice on what to do on their first day in a new home. Searches in March 2025 were running at 15% higher than in any other month last year.
She says: “April 2 lands right before the Easter long weekend, which makes it an ideal day to get the keys. You complete the move on Thursday, and then you have Good Friday, the weekend, and Easter Monday to get everything sorted before the working week begins.
“Most people dread the idea of moving and then going straight back to work the next day with half their belongings still in boxes. Having that buffer of extra days means you can actually feel at home before you are back at work on Tuesday.
“March searches for first-day moving tips consistently outpace every other month, and the pattern suggests that buyers and renters who plan to move in April begin their preparation weeks in advance. The spike in search activity points to a wave of people getting ready to move in around that last week of March and through to the first week in April.
Andrews recommends having a financial backup in place ahead of the big day.
“With completion dates this close, there’s very little room for delays. Bridging finance can be a useful contingency if something unexpected crops up, such as a hold-up in your property chain or a last-minute funding gap.
“Having that option ready means you can still move on time rather than risking the whole transaction falling through.”
The broader picture shows that spring remains the most active season for property moves in the UK, with longer daylight hours, better weather and the post-winter mentality of wanting a fresh start all playing into the timing.
