Complaints about mortgage lenders soared to an all-time high, reaching 30,014 in total in the first half of this year. Nearly half – 45% – of complaints were upheld.

Bank of Scotland, followed by Santander and Barclays received most mortgage complaints, with 12,080, 8,961 and 8,894 complaints respectively.

The figures released by the FSA are up from the 29,245 overall complaints about mortgage lenders received in the last half of last year.

Complaints about PPI were up by 23%, to 531,667.
